Unavailability of lands and investment hinder agriculture production in Sekondi-Takoradi – Skyy Power FM



The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Director of Agriculture Mr Daniel Asimenu says the sector is plagued with a lot of challenges limiting food production annually.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Skyy News, Mr Asimenu said they lack the needed investment from financial institutions in the agriculture sector in Sekondi-Takoradi, he further noted that they lack agric extension officers and limited lands for mining in the Metropolis.

Speaking on the limited land issues, he said most of the lands needed for farming are now being used for physical structural development.

“We are lacking agric extension officers who should be closer to the farmers, In STMA we got 8 operational areas where our extension officers are deployed to help the farmers, for now, we have only four of these offices working in only four areas leaving the other four. In that case, food production will be lower in the place you haven’t deployed extension officers.”

“Most of the lands are being taken over by physical structures like buildings and there is nothing we can do about it, so we are also advising our management at STMA to get some farmland for us that we can be able to direct farmers to rent for their business.”

He further advised the youth to get involved in farming and take up farming opportunities from the government including the
