Western Region records 20% fewer accident in first and third quarter of 2022 than 2021



The Western Region has recorded fewer accidents in the first and third quarters of 2022 than it did in 2021.

Statistics released the by Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service indicated that the region recorded a total of 525 accidents which was 20% less than the 654 accidents recorded in the first to the third quarter of 2021.

In the breakdown of the total figures, 60 fatal accidents were recorded in the first and third quarters of 2022 against 80 in 2021.

Serious accidents recorded in the first and third quarters of 2022 were 221 compared to 240 in 2021.

224 minor accidents were recorded in the first and third quarters of 2022 compared to 334 in 2021.

In the first and 3rd quarters of 2022, a total of 669 vehicles were involved in an accident against 884 in 2021 indicating a 25% decrease. a total of 160 people got injured in 2022 compared to 188 in 2021 indicating -a 15% decrease

However, a total number of 74 people died in these accidents in the first and third quarters of 2022 against 91 in 2021 indicating a 19% decrease.
