White bread has little nutritional value – Dietitian – Skyy Power FM

Bread has been a staple food around the world for thousands of years. People continue to consume it because of its convenience, portability, and taste.

There are many different types of bread, which people make in diverse ways, using various ingredients.

Examples include whole-grain bread, white bread, brown bread, and many more.

Speaking on the Jolly Breakfast Show, Mr David Tuffour, a dietician specialist, said, however, most people prefer white bread because it is quick and easy to digest, made from a highly processed, simple carbohydrate, and has little nutritional value.

He however, stated that when white bread is mixed with wheat, oat, and banana during processing, the nutritional value rises, “white bread is not dense with nutrition and digests early unlike the other bread mixed with wheat, oats, and banana. When you eat bread made with oats and banana, it gives you nutrients like fibre” he emphasized.

Mr Tuffour further urged the general public to cultivate the habit of adding salad and eggs when they choose to eat white bread. “since white bread is not highly nutritious, it will be ideal for one to add salad and egg when eating it for energy and nutrients”, he said.

This, he said will increase the nutritional value for a healthy life.
