Young people in Sekondi-Takoradi appeal to authorities to practice good maintenance culture – Skyy Power FM

Some young people in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis have appealed to the authorities to practice a good maintenance culture and rehabilitate the event centres here in the metropolis.

According to them, the absence of good centres for events and recreational activities has become a major challenge for all, especially young people.

In an interview with Skyy News, they made it known that, unlike before, the Sekondi-Takoradi township could boast of many event centres but that has changed over the years.

Among these event centres they mentioned were the Cultural Center, Princess Cinema, Essipong Sports Stadium, Gyendu Park, and TTU Park to mention but a few.

They said most of these event centres in the metropolis are currently in bad shape which has resulted in the closure of some of them, “The only places we have left are Vienna, Allan and other beaches. I don’t understand why the authorities are not doing anything about it,” a young resident of Sekondi stated.

They described the situation as a worrisome one since it has dwindled the number of events and recreational activities held in the city annually, “Programs are not held here in Sekondi Takoradi at all because of the lack of event centres. For instance, Gyendu Park is not that good. Essipong too is also not good and we can’t always use the mall for our events”, another young resident added.

They, however, appealed to the authorities to renovate these event centres for them to be fit for purpose and also try and put up new ones for the young people to help them channel their energies into something positive “I want to throw a challenge to the city authority to renovate these event centres. We appeal to the STMA, the Mps and the Regional Minister to do something about the situation” one young resident also suggested.
