The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Elvis Banoemuleng Botah has slammed the National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr Joshua Akamba following police report, he was carrying a weapon at the Arise Ghana demonstration held in Accra.
Speaking on Pan African TV’s Good Morning Africa on Thursday, June 30 monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said Mr Akamba is an illustration of indiscipline and hooliganism and questioned why the largest opposition party could elect such a person to such a critical position.
Mr Botah said the NDC party’s organizer is the biggest mistake of the party.
“For goodness sake, even for kumipreko which one or two people died in the process who went there with a gun? It is okay if there are fall out as a result of rushing and struggles and someone is suffocated to dead, those unfortunate issues happen but why will you wield a fire arm. Wielding a fire arm itself depending on the circumstances can be an illegality whether it is registered or not under our laws and so for no mean a person but an organizer of the largest opposition party to wield a fire arm, a side weapon in a public place. Look there are times you can even discharge a fire arm by mistake and harm people.
“ So Akamba is the greatest mistake of the NDC. Am telling you. Since the election of this man as the organizer of the NDC, I have always have a different spectacle in respect of the nature of elections in the NDC . Why would you elect someone like Akamba as the organizer of the largest opposition party?, ” Mr Botah asked.
He was of the view, the NDC is as important as the ruling government and that must reflect on the calibrate of people elected as its leaders.
“Look, the largest opposition NDC is as important as the ruling NPP government you know why? Because it take a formidable opposition to put a ruling government on its toes to do what is right and to deliver on its mandate of governance but where the national organizer of the largest opposition is himself an illustration of indiscipline and hooliganism, then you are in trouble as a nation so it is then not surprising that others will stone because If you have brought your gun there and the gun was taking then it is okay for others to result to an improvisation of stones as their means of expressing whatever violence they have at heart,” Mr Botah said.
Akamba wield gun at Arise Ghana Demo
Mr Botah was reacting to the two-day demonstration held on Tuesday June 28 to Wednesday June 29 in Accra and the subsequent violence which graced it.
The much anticipated demonstration dubbed #KromAy3Hye intended to draw government’s attention to the frustration of Ghanaians in the face of the current economic difficulties, turned bloody after demonstrators clashed with and the Ghana Police Service over an agreed route on the first day.
The two, have subsequently blamed each other for the development which saw some demonstrators and as well as the police injured.
However, a report from the Ghana Police Service had revealed Mr Akamba, a National Organiser of Ghana’s largest opposition party and also one of the leaders of the Arise Ghana demonstration was spotted with a weapon.
The service said he was duly advised to put away the weapon.

Speaking on the programme, Mr Botah said his actions leaves much to be desired indicating that his actions and that of other leaders clearly shows the motive was beyond the demonstration.
