Vida Essel-LampteyLegal Practitioner, Lawyer, Martin Kpebu has described the appointment of the Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta as caretaker Minister of the Ministry of Trade and Industry as a slap on the face of Ghanaians.
According to him, he is not surprise since it is public knowledge that the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not listen to the very people who put him in the place of authority he has today.
Lawyer Kpebu made the comment on News360 on TV3 on Friday, January 6, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
‘In one respect, I am not surprise, it just follows patterns that President Akufo-Addo is so intransigent that he doesn’t listen to the populace. He doesn’t listen to the citizenry. They have called for the sacking of Ofori-Atta and so this caretaker thing is a slap on the face of Ghanaians,” he said.
He explained it is normal for such appointment to be made but the President should have looked beyond Mr Ofori-Atta since he has lost faith with the people.
“….there are some conventions but my point is that in times like this when Akufo-Addo has put in Ofori-Atta and they have made their family rich through allowing Data Bank to sell government shares and all that which has upset Ghanaians and this has spoil so many businesses, the President should not have followed those conventions,” Lawyer Kpebu noted.
“….In this case, looking at the trajectory, looking at what Ofori-Atta has done to Ghanaians, business have collapsed, people have died, people can’t buy their medicines and the rest through his incompetent, the President shouldn’t have followed any convention, he should have just straight away giving it to a different person not Ofori-Atta who has caused us so much pain,” the celebrated legal practitioner emphasized.
Ofori-Atta heads Trade Ministry as caretaker Minister
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday, January 6, appointed the Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta as Caretaker Minister for the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
This was after the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kyeremanten tendered in his resignation on Thursday, January 5.
A statement from the Presidency signed by the Communications Director, Mr Eugene Arhin on January 6, said, Mr Ofori-Atta will act until a substantive minster is appointed.
