Censure: Ofori-Atta acquitted himself well – Ellen Daaku

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NNP)’s Communication Team, Ms Ellen Ama Daaku has said the Finance of Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta acquitted himself well of the allegations leveled against him in the censure motion by the Minority in Caucus in Parliament.

She made comment on TV3 NewDay on Thursday, December 8, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

“……for me, I felt this ad-hoc committee, I don’t think it was very needful at this particular time, the reason being that after forming the committee and of course going by the constitution you have to give the Finance Minister the opportunity to also come and defend himself and that is exactly what happened.

…..In my estimation he acquitted himself very well at that defends and so right now am wondering what sort of decision they are going to take . I believe if they have allowed the Majority to go the way they were going, they would have achieve the same in anyway so for me, I am very indifferent to the report and its result. Because I can’t see the majority joining the minority to agree with them to let our Finance Minister go. If he has to go, they will find a way of letting him go through their own means,” Ms Daaku said.

The committee was to give the Minister a fair hearing and also respond to all allegations made against him by the Minority.

Mr Ofori-Atta was among other things accused of despicable conflict of interest, unconstitutional withdrawal from the consolidated fund, illegal payment of oil revenue into offshore accounts, deliberate and dishonest misrepresentation of economic figures to Parliament, fiscal recklessness leading to the crash of the Ghana Cedi, alarming incompetence and frightening ineptitude as well as gross mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy as their reasons.
