"Di wo fie asem" – IGP Dampare tells British High Commissioner to Ghana

The Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, IGP George Akufo Dampare has asked the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Ms Harriet Thompson to learn to keep within the limit of what concerns her.

The caution was in connection with a recent post made by the High Commissioner about the arrest of the Convener for the #FixTheCountry campaign, Oliver Barker Vormawor over traffic offence.

Ms Thompson reacting to the arrest of Mr Barker Vormawor said she will be interested to see where the case goes.

Oliver Barker Vormawor, convener of #FixTheCountry movement, arrested again, I understand for a motoring offence on his way to court. I’ll be interested to see where this goes…” her tweet on May 17 sighted by GhanaPlus.com reads.

The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to your tweet which reads Oliver Barker Vormawor, convener of #FixTheCountry movement, arrested again, I understand for a motoring offence on his way to court. I’ll be interested to see where this goes…”

Ordinarily, the Ghana Police Service would not have responded to comments such as yours, obviously made either from a biased or uniformed position.

However, we have learnt from previous painful experience that it has not been helpful to ignore such misguided, unwarranted and biased comment intended to tarnish to reputation of the Ghana Police Service and that of the country.

What is more, we consider your tweet a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relation 1961 which enjoins diplomatic missions not to interfere in the internal affairs of their host country,” portions of the four page letter  reads.

The statements presented the fact of the case of Mr Vormawor arrest to Ms Thompson and further throw at her some 15questions adding For the moment, we will recommend a Ghanaian saying that might guide you in your diplomatic engagements. The saying goes “di wo fie asem” – it means learn to keep within the limit of what concerns you”.
