Ghc 3.6 million Covid funds were distributed for the purpose to win 2020 election – NDC

Northern Regional Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intercepted a tape of former NPP parliamentary candidate for Sagnarigu constituency and the 2nd vice chairperson, Madam Felicia Tetteh, made claims of how the covid funds was distributed to her and other NPP members in the region.

The audio claimed that “the covid fund came. My quota was GHC 50,000 as a regional 2nd vice. I was given another GHC 50,000 because I doubled as the parliamentary candidate for Sagnarigu. The constituency was given GHC 200,000. Municipal Chief Executive was given GHC 30,000. Chairman was given GHC 20,000 and other executives were given GHC 10,000 each”.

In a statement signed by the regional communication officer, Abdul- Mumin
Alhassan dated on June 2, 2022 said, It is extremely sad state of governance and abused of the trust of the people of Ghana at a time when Ghanaians and the world were battling the major pandemic that claimed thousands of lives and left many families in an agony and pain.

The government ride on the back of this, mobilized money and expended it ito win The 2020 election than protecting the lives of people. Indeed through this revelation government prioritized spending to win election than the lives of Ghanaians.

The region has 18 constituencies and by the words of Madam Felicia Tetteh each constituency was given GHC 20,000 a conservative estimated would mean GHC 3.6 billion was distributed for the purposed to win election in the region rather than using such sums of money to support business and the fight against covid-19.

You can recalled the NDC through the former president John Dramani Mahama raised a serious concerned questions about how the Akufo Addo led government expended over GHC 30 billion in the fight against covid-19 and Called for an audit of the covid-19 expenditure.

The minority in parliament has also called for the audit through parliamentary process and the government has deployed every gorilla tactics to escape accountability.

The investigative apparatus of the state should rised up the matter and investigate this revelation in the supreme of Ghanaian taxpayer as such public funds must not and should not be utilized in such a manner.
