Vida Essel-LampteyA member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP)’s Communication Team, Ms Ellen Ama Daaku has said she totally agrees to calls for the exit of the Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to her, although, the minister acquitted himself well of all the allegations leveled against him by the Minority in the Vote of Censure, he still has to leave adding “I believe that when it gets to a point and you have done your best, it is time to go”
“Rolland, let be honest, no finance minister is popular now, the world over. In the present global issues. We had a Finance Minister who spent 35days at his post and he left and so for me, personally, I believe that when it gets to a point and you have done your best, it is time to go,” Ms Daaku said.
“I totally agree that he must go,” she added
Ms Daaku made the comment while contributing to discussions on Mr Ofori-Atta’s censure motion today, December 8, on TV3 NewDay monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
She is however, of the view, Mr ofori-Atta must be given the needed time to complete the country’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund(IMF) as requested by the President before he leaves office.
“But Remember when the 80MPs went to meet the President, the President did tell them that he wanted him to bring in the budget for it to be passed, get the IMF programme going and then he will see what he will do,” Ms Daaku said.
I will be surprise if Ofori-Atta continues to stay – Ellen Daaku
Ms Daaku noted she will be surprise if the Finance Minister continues to stay in office when he is done with his negotiations with the IMF
“I believe that when all these things settle, I will be surprise if he continues to stay. He is already in the middle and in the process of doing something let him get to the logical conclusion of what he is doing and after that we will see what will happen,” she added.
Ofori-Atta must go
There have been several calls for the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta to resign or be sacked by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following the country’s dire economic state which begun early this year.
The calls have mostly come from the public, the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) and its former leader and President, John Dramani Mahama, the academia and host of others.
The latest to join the call areMembers of Parliament of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) and also a vote of Censure filed by the Minority Caucus to remove him from office.
