Ken Agyapong blasts NPP for late start of Nat’l Delegates Conference

Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has lashed out at organizers of the 2022 National Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying they wasted everybody’s time with the late start of the programme.

He said if the programme had started earlier, most people would have been home before Sunday, July 17.

The Conference was billed to start at 9:00am on Saturday, July 16 with the welcoming of delegates from their places of lodging in Accra.

The opening prayer was scheduled to have been said at 10:00am.

However, the programme started a few minutes to 4:00pm as delegates were still stuck in their places of abode as of the time they were to be at the Accra Sports Stadium.

That notwithstanding, Ken Agyapong was happy the elections were “free and fair”.

“My concern was to make sure that the election is free and fair and so far it is free and fair,” he said in an interview with Media General‘s Eric Mawuena Egbeta.

“The voice of the voiceless and my people, I told them, that if you starve the grassroots and come to them last minute, they will vote against you.”

On that score, he called out Ashanti Region Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, for mobilising regional chairmen of the party to rally their support for incumbent John Boadu, who lost the General Secretary seat to Justin Kodua Frimpong.

“The 15 chairmen and the Central Regional Chairman, where are the 16 chairmen? They should be ashamed of themselves because they couldn’t decide for the party.

“My brother Wontumi should cool down. He should cool down [because] he doesn’t own this party. He doesn’t at all. He has to cool down.”
