The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has called on Ghanaian electorates to allow their Members of the Parliament to stay in the house for a number of years instead of changing them every four years.

That he said will enable the MPs mature and contribute meaningfully to deliver the results expected of them by their constituent.

“In this game, monkeys play by sizes. It is good and proper to allow elected Members of Parliament to mature in Parliament. You can’t keep changing your members of Parliament like shirts and expect to reap good dividends,”the Speaker said.

“You must give them the time to grow to be able to produce the dividends that you want,” Speaker Alban Bagbin added.

Speaker advice Parliament to adopt censuses building

JoyNews report, the Speaker made the call at this year’s Commonwealth Parliamentary Association workshop held on the theme “Effective parliamentary scrutiny, gender sensitivity and complexity.”

Speaking at the workshop, the Speaker also called on both the Majority and the Minority groups to in the house to dialogue to ensure censuses in their activities.

That he said a very vital assignment given them by the Ghanaian public whom they represent which they must oblige.

“The only way is to get the two sides to consult and to dialogue with each other, to cooperate, to compromise, to collaborate to achieve consensus, this is an imperative imposed on us political leaders by the people of Ghana, we have no choice,” he said.
