Chairperson of Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Adukwei Mensa

A member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP)’s Communication team and Public Relations Officer of the National Disaster Management(NADMO), Mr George Eyisi has called on the Electoral Commission of Ghana to engage the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) on concerns raised recently over why they boycotted IPAC meetings.

According to him, the NDC was very instrumental in the country’s democratic process and it would be unhealthy for the country’s democracy to continue to have them boycott the Inter Party Advisory Committee(IPAC), an advisory body to the country’s electoral body.

“We cannot under estimate the role of the NDC in the democratic processes, they are a major political party, I said it on this platform many times that His excellence John Dramani Mahama and the NDC were not going to get anything well over 42%, what happen? They are a force to reckon with so we need to respect them and then make sure we get them to the table”.

Mr Eyisi made the comment on TV3 NewDay on Friday, May 21 monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

Even when we smile at IPAC Jean Mensa gets angry – Otokunor

The NPP Communicator’s comment was in reaction to the NDC stands to boycott IPAC meetings and reasons for doing so.

The largest opposition party in a press conference described the EC’s call for IPAC meetings as a sham and explained one of the reasons they boycotted was because of the posture of the EC towards the NDC.

The Deputy General Secretary of the party, Mr Peter Boamah Otokunor  revealed, even a smile from them at the IPAC meeting annoys the EC Chair.

Engage the NDC outside IPAC

Speaking on the development, Mr Eyisi noted that the impression formed by the NDC that the EC was against them aught to be corrected going forward and advice the EC to engage the party outside IPAC and later all stakeholders to iron out their challenges.

“Let see Madam Jean Mensah, Dr Bossman Asare and Mr Tettey should see what they can do they themselves to reach out to the NDC that yes, this is your complain, we have heard it, can you come to the table one on one? EC verse NDC not IPAC, put your cards on the table let see and your suggestions what do you think we can do to abuse your mind on that believe. That will be a step in the right direction,” he said.
