NDC Primaries: Parliamentary hopeful withdraws to support Dr. Donald Agumenu

A US-based Computer Scientist and Data Expert, who has been gunning to be MP for Ketu North has withdrawn from the race, throwing his weight behind another contender, Dr. Donald Agumenu.

Mr. Agbesi Jibril Hamenu says the former special aide to late President Rawlings, Dr. Agumenu is best suited to replace outgoing MP Hon James Klutse Avedzi.

“After deeper self-intropection and extensive consultations, I have decided to abate my push to be Member of Parliament for the good people of Ketu North,” Mr. Hamenu has said in a statement.

According to him, the groundwork of meeting some party members exposed him to challenges of the NDC in the hinterlands.

He stated, “I was relishing the prospects of deploying my skills as a US-based computer scientist and data expert to confronting these challenges head-on for the growth of the NDC in Penyi, Dzodze, Weta and Afife traditional areas.”

“But for the presence of Dr. Donald Senanu Agumenu who doubles as the Welfare Chairman of Dzodze- Penyi Citizens Forum as well a Patron for Dzodze Youth Club, I would have gone the full haul to contest the primaries. I see in Dr. Agumenu, a full store-house of experience, exposure and resourcefulness to better represent Ketu North after Hon. Dr. Avedzi.”

Mr. Hamenu has therefore called on all NDC delegates, traditional leaders and all stakeholders in his native Penyi area as well as “the entire Ketu North to rally behind Dr. Agumenu to shape the sustainability of the party and build on the existing legacy for socio-economic development.”

According to the US-based Computer Scientist, he believes Dr. Agumenu’s selflessness and love for humanity will deliver the right leadership for Ketu North.

Speaking  in a meeting with traditional leaders and some party members including delegates, Mr. Hamenu reemphasized that notwithstanding the fact that  Penyi traditional area has never had a representative hailing from that axis to represent the constituency as a Member of Parliament, Municipal Chief Executive or other appointments to reflect some level of equity in leadership distribution across the constituency, he was ready to sacrifice his ambition and the general feeling of the people for more competent hand to lead the constituency.

“I have decided to back-off for Agumenu for key political situations we found ourselves in and also for his exceptional leadership qualities and sociocultural connection with the people to benefit all of us,” he added.

The Paramount Chief of Penyi Traditional Area Togbiga Dadzi V,  lauded the decision of Mr. Hamenu to withdraw from the parliamentary race, saying “To take such a step can only mean you’ve seen some exceptional qualities in your brother Donald Agumenu that would be mutually beneficial to us all as a people in Penyi and Ketu North at large.”

Torgbiga Dadzi V, lauded Dr. Agumenu’s vision in ensuring the Akanu- ECOWAS CORRIDOR BORDER gets the necessary attention and investment needed for the socio-economic development of his people.

The withdrawal of Mr. Hamenu from the race leaves some 8 aspirants including Donald Agumenu, Edem Agbana, Tanko Kwamigah Atokple and Afetsi Awoonor to battle it on 13th May for the single slot to represent Ketu North Constituency on the ticket of the NDC.
