Roy X Taylor who happens to be the son of Highlife legend, Ebo Taylor, has opined that mainstream artistes in Ghana are the reason why Highlife isn’t making it globally.

In an interview on Cape Coast-based Property FM’s showbiz program, the ‘Christ’ hitmaker said he doesn’t understand why top artistes don’t talk about Highlife music during international interviews.

“First of all we have to be proud of what we have because in everything you do if you’re proud of it that’s when you talk about it for you to be able to put it out there,” he told Amansan Krakye observed by MyNewsGh.com

He continued “But if you feel that you’re not doing Highlife so when you have the opportunity to talk about the parent genre of your country in an international interview then you boycott Highlife and talk about something else.

“These things don’t speak well as an artiste so I’ve seen that the mistakes are coming from the mainstream artistes because if we all accept that we’re doing Highlife the world will understand that it’s coming from Ghana,” he added on the show.

He ended “So it’s about accepting the genre Highlife and by so doing the recognition will come but we don’t have an organized body and for a country to be successful in your music genre it means you have to promote that genre for people outside to also accept it”.
