Shatta Wale, Medikal, three others granted bail
Dancehall King Shatta Wale and three members of his team who were remanded into prison custody by an Accra Circuit Court have been granted bail.
The artiste and the members of his team are, however, expected to reappear in court on November 9, 2021.
Shatta Wale was granted a GHC 100,000 self recognisance bail after he pleaded not guilty to charges of causing fear and panic and publishing false news levelled against him.
Kojo Owusu Koranteng, Shatta’s personal assistance, Eric Vanetor, a graphic designer and Iddrisu Yussif, a beautician were charged for abetment of criminal publication of false news were also admitted to GHc100, 000 each with a surety whom should be a public servant.
Shatta Wale and three team members including one Deportee, Nana Dope and Gangee were arrested for publishing fake news and causing fear and panic.
They were behind the news of that Shatta Wale had been shot and was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital; news that turned out to be a hoax.
The Dancehall artiste in a statement after the Ghana Police Service tried to no avail to search for him claimed he was on the run for his life.
He questioned the Ghana Police Service on why they failed to act when a Prophet prophesied his death but was eager to arrest him when he published fake news about himself.
The artiste spent one week at the Ankaful Maximum prisons before he was granted bail today when he reappeared before the court.
Meanwhile, Medikal who was also remanded for five days has been granted bail.
The rapper was said to have brandished a gun on social media and was arrested by personnel of the Ghana Police service.
Medikal was granted bail in the sum of GHc100, 000 and is also expected to produce one surety who should be a public servant.
