There's no ‘kululu’ in Grammy nominations

Ghanaian international Reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni says his nomination at the 64th Grammy Awards has not been influenced whatsoever and that what transpired into the decision by the award scheme to select him is based on the criteria by the board.

“You can’t have influence in a scheme like that. This is not back door stuff. This is an international body. So I don’t have that power, artistes don’t have that power over an international body which have many members who are voting and you don’t know the members. How are you going to be able to influence the members”?

Rocky Dawuni said this on TV 3 when asked if it was possible for anyone to have an influence on their nomination unto the award scheme.

Back home in Ghana, some entertainment analysts have criticized most award schemes in the country citing issues of bias and favouritism.

But setting the record straight on his nomination, Rocky Dawuni insisted that, Grammy Award “is not like other different kinds of an award which you can go back door … where you have friends and stuff”.

According to him, it is even dangerous for artistes to use other means other than the legitimate ones to win awards for themselves.

Rocky Dawuni is in contention for the Best Global Music Album award at the 64th Grammy Awards with his “Voice of BunBon”, Vol. 1 album. He faces opposition from Daniel Ho & Friends, Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti, and Wizkid.
