2021/22 Ghana Premier League matchday 1: Newcomers Accra Lions fight to draw 1-1 against Sharks in season opener
Elmina Sharks have started off the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 win against newcomers Accra Lions FC.
The team from Elmina today played as a guest to the matchday one opponent at the Accra Sports Stadium to battle for the crucial three points.
In a game of two halves, Accra Lions FC dominated the first and had so many chances but failed to capitalise to get on the scoresheet.
In the pulsating encounter that ensued in the second half, Michelle Sarpong who is on loan from Hearts of Oak equalized for Elmina Sharks in the 65th minute to shoot the visitors into a deserved lead.
Staying focused after going behind, Accra Lions FC fought and scored through goal poacher Salifu Rauf to restore parity.
In the final nine minutes of the encounter, although both teams pushed bodies forward, neither side could score and hence had to settle for a draw at the end of the game.
