2022 FIFA WC playoff: Nigeria coach Augustine Eguavoen gives reason for excluding Cyriel Dessers in squad to face Ghana
The head coach for the Nigeria national team, Austin Eguavoen has disclosed that he did not include Holland-based Cyriel Dessers in his squad for the clash against Ghana this month because he has not had the chance to watch him.
The attacker who plays his football for Feyenoord has displayed fine form in the Dutch Eredivisie this season.
Although it was speculated he had been invited to play for Nigeria, he was nowhere when the squad was announced.
Speaking on his decision, Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen did not mince words.
“You are talking about Cyriel Dessers, where is he playing?” Eguavoen asked rhetorically.
“So am I going to take the train from here to Holland? The answer is no.
“So the time has to be right.
“When I say I haven’t watched the player, I’m talking about watching them live,” the Nigeria coach shared.
Ghana and Nigeria will lock horns in the final week of March in the final playoff of the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
