2022 FIFA WC qualifier: Solar Ayew believes skipper Andre Ayew is key to Ghana beating Nigeria
Solar Ayew, the uncle of Andre Ayew believes the forward will be key to Ghana beating Nigeria in the final playoffs of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.
Ghana will renew their 71-year-old rivalry with their West African neighbours when both battle for a single ticket to the global showpiece in Qatar.
Four-time African champions, the Black Stars will host the first leg with the reverse encounter in Nigeria, both to hold between 24th – 29th March.
“It’s a pride and honour to captain your national team, and per the performance and leadership qualities of Dede (Andre) Ayew, it will take only the President of the land, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah to stripe off the captaincy from Dede Ayew,” Solar told Kumasi-based Light FM.
“His absence will make it difficult for Ghana to beat Nigeria.”
Ayew was part of the Black Stars squad that suffered a painful group stage exit at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after losing 3-2 to Comoros in the final group stage clash – a game the Black Stars skipper was showed a red card.
