2022 World Cup play-off: Nigeria coach to include Rangers defender Calvin Bassey in squad for Ghana clash after explosive display in Europa League 

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is expected to make Nigeria squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Ghana next month.

The Super Eagles will play a two-legged encounter with the Black Stars with the winner of both legs securing qualification to the World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana will play host to Nigeria in the first leg on March 25, 2022 before the reverse fixture in Abuja on March 29, 2022.

According to OwnGoalNigeria.com, the enterprising left-back has been handed a spot in the Super Eagles squad for the World Cup qualifiers playoff against Ghana bearing a last-minute change.

Bassey impressed Nigeria coach Augustine Eguavoen who watched Rangers 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund in Europa League in midweek, where he bagged an assist.

“A source close to the coach revealed that Bassey will surely be in the 24 man list expected to be released by the coach in two weeks’ time ahead of the game against Ghana in March. ”

“Bassey looks like a sure banker. Eguavoen likes him a lot particularly the fact that he can play as a left back and also in central defence. He has the size and the ability to thrive in African football. He will be in the list”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

“It’s going to be a 24-man list of foreign based players with the rest of the sqaud about five or so picked from teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). They will train for a week or two before the foreign base arrive camp”, he concluded.
