2022 World Cup playoff: Ghana pipped Nigeria 1-0 in their last meeting in Kumasi

Ghana will hope to maintain their winning run against Nigeria at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium when they face off in the 2022 World Cup play-off next week.

The Black Stars will play the Super Eagles in a two-legged encounter with the winner of both legs securing qualification to the biggest soccer mundial in Qatar.

Ghana will play host to Nigeria on March 25, 2022 before the reverse fixture at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 29, 2022.

The Cape Coast stadium which has been Ghana’s favourite home ground for recent qualifiers was rejected by the continental football governing body (CAF) due to its bad state.

On Wednesday, CAF confirmed the Kumasi Baba Yara stadium for the clash next week, a move that has sparked massive excitement among fans in the Ashanti regional capital.

The Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium will bring back memories of one of the famous clashes between Ghana and Nigeria.

The four-time African champions last meeting with Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was in September 1990 in the African Cup of Nations qualifier. Saara Mensah strike settled the encounter.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium will for the first time host a World Cup play-off since 2013 when Ghana inflicted a 6-1 win over Egypt.
