2022 World Cup qualifier: Ghana coach Akonnor to work on new approach following absence of influential duo – Kudus & Partey

Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor is expected to work on a new approach following the absence of influential midfielders, Thomas Partey and Kudus Mohammed.

The Black Stars will miss the services of the duo for the doubleheader World Cup qualifiers due to injuries.

Their absence comes as a huge blow for the four-time African champions with Akonnor expected to adopt a new strategy for the much-anticipated matches.

Partey and Kudus have been out of action for Arsenal and Ajax respectively in the ongoing season after sustaining injuries during pre-season.

The pair were named among Akonnor’s initial 30-man squad for the qualifiers but could not recover to join the team.

With Ghana missing the services of the duo who have been a key cog to Akonnor’s squad, the gaffer will have to change his tactics to accommodate the current players in his team.

Mubarak Wakaso, Baba Iddrisu and Emmanuel Lomotey are expected to fill the void created.

Ghana will play host to Ethiopia on Friday, September 3 before playing South Africa at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg.
