AFCON 2021; “Only local coaches have won the AFCON” – CK rallies for support
Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor called on Ghanaians to believe in his prowess as he seeks to end Ghana’s 39-year AFCON title drought in Cameroon next year.
The Black Stars will be heading into AFCON 2021 in Cameroon next year with a huge task of breaking the Nation’s long trophy drought.
The Former Ghana captain is however optimistic he will be able to end the drought as history is on his side.
Ghana’s only four previous AFCON triumphs came under the tutelage of Ghanaian Coaches and CK is hoping he to join the illustrious list of managers to win Ghana an AFCON trophy,
Legendary coach Charles Kumi Gyamfi won it three times for the Black Stars in 1963, 1965, and 1982 whilst Fred Osman Doudu won the third title for the Black Stars in 1978.
Coach Akonnor while addressing the media during a Zoom Meeting called on Ghanaians to give him the necessary support as they head to Cameroon next year.
“I want to achieve this but we all need to believe. It’s only local coaches who have won the AFCON”, Coach Akonnor said in a zoom conference with the press.
“I am confident it will happen with a local coach. Ghanaians must start believing us”.
Ghana have been drawn in Group C alongside Morocco, Gabon, and debutants Comoros and will begin their quest to end their 40-year wait for a fifth AFCON trophy with their opener against Morocco on January, 10th, 2022.
