Akwasi Asante scores in Chesterfield 1-1 draw with Boreham
Ghana’s Akwasi Asante scored in Chesterfield’s 1-1 draw with Boreham Wood at Meadow Park.
After 22 minutes, the hosts created their first serious chance of the game, but Josh Rees was unable to direct Dennon Lewis’ whipped cross on goal.
Five minutes before halftime, Tom Whelan beat goalkeeper Taye Ashby-Hammond, but David Stephens came back to stop the ball from crossing the line.
Boreham Wood hit the crossbar early in the second half as Rees sent a shot off the post.
With 10 minutes remaining, the Spireites broke the deadlock from the penalty spot. After the ball was ruled to have struck Jacob Mendy’s arm in the area, Akwasi Asante made no mistake and scored.
However, two minutes from time, substitute Clifton leaped highest from a Rees corner to score for the home side.
Chesterfield is second on the league log and will play Maidenhead in their next game.
