Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expects more from Thomas Partey this season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is expecting Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey to play a leading role in the team this season.

Partey is yet to live up to expectations after joining the Gunners from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2020 summer transfer window.

His spell with the London based club has been plagued by injuries.

The deputy Ghana captain who missed the clubs first three matches of the season after sustaining an injury during pre-season returned to action on Saturday to help the club record their first win of the season.

He appeared as a second half substitute as the Gunners beat Norwich City 1-0.

However, Arteta, who is yet to see the best out of Partey insists he has a huge role to play in the team this season and has entreated him to carry responsibility out of the young players and lead the club.

“He is a player that has to be one of the leaders, he has to be the boss in midfield and one of the senior players that has to carry responsibility out of the young players and lead. We have been missing that big time.

“He has that winning culture, because he has won a lot in the game already, and to have these kinds of players in the team is extremely important.
