Ghana defender Abdul Baba Rahman wants a prolongation of celebrations for a month should the Black Stars win the Africa Cup of Nations tournament next year.

The senior national football team has been chasing continental glory for the past 39 years. Since winning a fourth and what has now been a last AFCON trophy in 1982, the Black Stars have failed to win the coveted trophy on three separate occasions (1992, 2010 and 2015).

Ghana have twice lost via penalty shoot-out to Ivory Coast in 1992 and 2015, and also suffered another painful final loss to Egypt in 2010.

The recent team led by skipper Andre Ayew have booked a ticket to the next edition of the competition which takes place in Cameroon in 2022.

Baba Rahman, a member of the 2015 team that witnessed a close but no cigar experience says being crowned as African Champions in the next edition of the tournament will be a dream come true for almost every Ghanaian.

The Chelsea defender who remains a key part of the team says chalking such a feat will merit a month-long celebrations.

“I don’t know what will happen if Ghana wins the upcoming AFCON. Because that’s the dream of  almost every Ghanaian,” Baba Rahman told FootballMadeinGhana.com in an exclusive interview.

“In 2015 we went so close to winning it. We had so many young players motivated and there were also old player with experience. And when there is this mixture, it works in the favor of Ghana. So I’m hoping that whoever gets the chance to make it (to the tournament) will bring the AFCON to us so that we can celebrate for one month.

“I think Ghana should celebrate for one month if we win the AFCON,” he concluded.
