Black Challengers players pockets $2000 each for lifting Amputee Afcon trophy

Black Challengers players have pocketed $2000 each for lifting the 2021 African Cup of Nations for Amputee Football as they beat Liberia in the final last month.

The Black Challengers secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory against West African neighbours.

Despite off field issues including struggling for funds for the trip, the Black Challengers were by far the best side in the tournament staged in Tanzania.

They overcame Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria before a stunning performance saw them beat reigning world champions Angola in the semi-final.

However, government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports has rewarded members of the National Amputee Football team, the Black Challengers, with $2000 each for their triumph.

The nine players bought their own tickets to go and participate in the competition without approval from the Ministry, largely due to administrative divisions at the Ghana Amputee Football Association.

After their triumph, the Ministry bought tickets for the players to return home last Tuesday and will now be $2000 richer.
