Brighton boss Potter reacts to clubs chasing Lamptey: We’re not a selling club
Brighton manager Graham Potter has maintained that the club is not a selling club, but concedes that they cannot afford to turn down large sums of money for their finest players.
Dan Burn was permitted to depart the Amex in January after prior bids were rejected until Newcastle ultimately paid their £13 million valuations, after the sale of Ben White last summer when Arsenal fulfilled their £50 million expectations.
“Football decides that. It’s not me. Like Ben, you can speak all you want but if someone’s prepared to pay the money that it is, you have to listen to that.
“Football decides that and it’s not me talking or Yves talking or Tariq Lamptey talking or Robert Sanchez talking or Adam Webster talking. You’ve got to play, you’ve got to do well and then who knows?
“As a club we’re quite strong. We don’t have to sell any of our players, but we understand it’s important to our development as a club. We know that that selling players helps us improve and develop as a club.
“It isn’t never say never, but it’s important that Yves is with us. He’s enjoying his football and while he’s doing that, I think it’s great for us and good for him.”
