Caleb Ekuban makes Black Stars squad despite Genoa struggles
Despite struggling to hit the ground running at his new club, Caleb Ekuban has made the Black Stars’ 32 man provisional squad which is set to play two crucial games next month.
Ekuban switched clubs from rom Trabzonspor for a reported €1.8 million in the summer to Genoa but has failed to make an impact as he has been largely been unimpressive.
The former Leeds player has only been involved in 150 minutes of action in both the Italian Cup and the Italian Serie A, and has reportedly been criticized by the Genoa fans.
However, his performance has not deterred returning head coach, Milovan Rajevac from including the 27 year old in the 32 man squad.
The Serbian trainer announced his first squad following his return to the Black Stars after his initial stint between 2008 and 2010.
Milovan was in charge of the Black Stars when the team reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup and will be hoping to ensure a smooth progression to the 2022 edition.
Alongside Caleb Ekoban, Milovan Rajevac has handed call ups to the likes of Andre Ayew (Al Sadd SC), Kamaldeen Suleymana (Rennes), Tariq Fosu-Henry (Brentford FC), Joel Fameyeh (Orenburg), Yaw Yeboah (Wisła Kraków), Samuel Owusu (Al-Fayha FC), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Emmanuel Gyasi (Spezia), and Benjamin Tetteh (Yeni Malatyaspor) as forwards.
The Black Stars have a double-header against Zimbabwe in the next round of World Cup qualifiers in October, taking on the Warriors on Saturday, October 12 at the Cape Coast stadium before traveling to Harare three days later for the reverse fixture.
