During my prime years, I was better than Asamoah Gyan - Kwadwo Poku Mahala

Kwadwo Gyamfi-Poku known in football circles as  ‘Mahala’ has stated that during his prime years, he was better than the Black Stars’ all-time leading scorer, Asamoah ‘Babyjet’ Gyan.

Poku had successful stints with Asante Kotoko and King Faisal in the early 2000s, and he maintains he was better than Asamoah Gyan, who played for Liberty Professionals in the Ghana Premier League at the time (GPL).

Mahala’s playing days in Ghana he won two GPL titles(2003 and 2007/08), Sports Writers Association Ghana(SWAG) cup (2003), and Ghana League Club Association Cup(2003).

“I didn’t say that. What I said was during my time,” he denied.

“You know every player has his time(peak years), Abedi Pele had his time, Tony Yeboah had his time. But during my time, the strikers were me, Asamoah Gyan, and one other player who played for Ashanti Gold, Shaibu (Yakubu). So I said I was the best amongst us in the Ghana Premier League,” he explained.

“If you interview him(Asamoah Gyan) he will tell you that, it’s the truth,” Mahala added.
