Ex GFA boss: Government and FA must have clear boundaries

Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi has indicated that the government and the football association should have clear boundaries in the administration of football in the country.

There has been a huge debate on how much influence the government yields in the administration of football across the world and specifically in Ghana.

While the world’s governing body FIFA has clear guidelines on the discourse, there are doubts whether the rules are practical enough.

Touching on the discourse in an interview with GTV Sports Plus, the former CAF vice president indicated that while there needs to be a ‘cordial’ relationship between both parties, clear boundaries need to be set.

“Government needs the football association as much as the association also needs the government,” he said.

“FIFA has admonished the FAs to cooperate with governments to develop football but the interference is condemned so I will preach that as long as possible. The government should tolerate and cooperate with the football association.

“The province of each of them must be clearly circumscribed so the government knows what they can and cannot do.”
