GFA contacted me to help convince players to play for Black Stars - Kennedy Agyapong reveals

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has revealed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) contacted him to help convince Ghanaian born players abroad to switch nationality to play for the Black Stars.

The country’s football governing body over the years have been trying to convince players born abroad to play for the national team but all effort made have proven futile.

Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Monday, the vociferous lawmaker revealed that he tried to speak to some Ghanaian born players abroad but they rejected his proposal to play for the national team citing that they don’t want to be criticized by the media.

“The Ghana Football Association contacted me to help speak to some players abroad because they know I am close to them but they rejected the offer to play for the national team,” he shared.

“The players don’t want to be criticized because some of them saw what the Ghanaian media did to Asamoah Gyan.

“I don’t know why the Ghanaian media criticize everything. They criticize players, coaches and everything they see but that is not the way to go,” he added.

Tariq Lamptey, Callum Hudson Odoi, Inaki Williams, among other players have been tracked by the Ghana FA to switch nationality.
