GFA President dedicates U20 AFCON trophy to Ghanaian media

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has dedicated the 2021 Total Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy to the Ghanaian media.

The Black Satellites began the competition which was staged in Mauritania with a 4-0 win over Tanzania, drew goalless with Morocco before falling 2-1 to the Gambia at the group stage.

Despite their inconsistent start, Coach Karim Zito’s side went on to beat Cameroon, Gambia and the Hippos of Uganda in the final to lift the coveted trophy for the fourth time in its history.

Speaking during the first-ever GFA/SWAG capacity building programme in Accra on Tuesday, Kurt Okraku acknowledged the media for their support and constructive criticisms which helped in the team’s success story in the tournament

‘During the tournament, there were several criticism from the media which really pushed the team to win the trophy. Those hard criticisms pushed the team and we dedicate this trophy to the Ghanaian media for the role they played in getting the team to win the trophy”.
