Ghana midfielder Albert Adomah reveals lowest point of his career

Ghana international Albert Adomah says he being denied a contract extension during his days at Aston Villa was the lowest point of his football career.

The 34-year-old, who currently plies his trade for Championship side Queens Park Rangers had stints with Aston Villa between 2016 and 2019 before his exit to Nottingham Forest.

Adomah, after helping Aston Villa to secure promotion to the Premier League was deemed redundant by coach Dean Smith, however, he was left out of the squad to play in the top-flight.

According to him, his contract with the club had elapsed and was looking forward to an extension, which did not happen.

The Ghana international has therefore described the club’s decision not to extend his contract as the lowest point of his career.

“I didn’t have a contract anymore,” he explains. “I was top scorer the year before and thought I would be rewarded with a new contract, but it never worked out. That was one of my low points.

“There is no loyalty in football and it hurts me to say that. I’m sure any other person would have gotten what they deserved, anyone in a business or work life – if you do well, you will be rewarded. I just felt let down, I was hurt. That was it: ‘Bye, bye, thanks for the help’ and I had to move on.”
