Ghana to know 2022 World Cup playoffs fate on Tuesday after South Africa protest at FIFA

Ghana will know their 2022 World Cup playoffs fate on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 as FIFA refer protest lodged by South Africa FA regarding their decisive clash against the Black Stars to the Disciplinary Committee.

Footballghana.com understands the Disciplinary Committee of FIFA will sit on the matter on Tuesday.

Safa lodged an official complaint after the Black Stars won the match through a controversial penalty that enabled them to reach the African World Cup play-offs and denied South Africa the chance to qualify.

“We refer to the above-mentioned matter, and in particular to the protest filed by the South African Football Association on 15 November 2021 in connection with the match Ghana v. South Africa played on 14 November,” FIFA said in an official statement.

“Furthermore, we wish to inform the South African Football Association as well as the Ghana Football Association that the above-mentioned protest will be submitted to a member of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on 23 November 2021.”

According to FIFA, the matter will be taken “for consideration and a decision in accordance with art. 14 (9) of the Regulations FIFA World Cup 2022TM, Preliminary Competition as well as arts. 46 and 54 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (will be made).

Meanwhile, FIFA has directed the Ghana FA to respond to the protest filed by South Africa by November 20, 2021.

South Africa are hoping for a replay of the crucial match after they lost 1-0 amid a controversial decision by Senegalese referee Ndiaye Maguette.

The official awarded Ghana a penalty after Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey was impeded in the South African box in the first half.

Ayew stepped up and scored to take Black Stars through, much to the dismay of Bafana Bafana who needed just a point to qualify.
