Ghana WC qualifiers opponent South Africa in talks to admit fans for Ethiopia clash

Ghana’s opponent in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, South Africa is working to admit fans to the FNB Stadium in October for the clash against Zimbabwe.

Nicknamed the Bafana Bafana, the national team of South Africa are currently leaders of Group G after the first two matches of the African qualifiers.

Keen on staying top, South Africa is aiming to pick six points off Ethiopia in a doubleheader encounter next month.

This week, Safa is meeting Sports Minister Mthethwa for a discussion on the admission of fans to support the Bafana Bafana.

“There will be a meeting with the minister (Mthethwa) early next week which will shed light about what is going to happen regarding fans for the match against Ethiopia at FNB Stadium. After that meeting, there will be an announcement on the way forward,” Safa CEO Tebogo Motlanthe has confirmed.

He added, “The minister and the deputy president (Mabuza) said the last time that there must be an assessment of the vaccine roll-out and also readiness of vaccine certificates, and these issues will be discussed in that meeting.”

South Africa will on October 9, 2021, host Ethiopia at the FNB Stadium. Subsequently, the second leg will be played on October 12.
