Ghana winger Christian Atsu among African stars with Messi comparison
Ghana international, Christian Atsu is among African stars that have at one point or the other in their careers been compared to new Paris Saint-Germain signing Lionel Messi.
The Argentina great on Tuesday night completed an anticipated move as a free agent to the French Ligue 1 giants after leaving Barcelona.
With all attention on the multiple Balon d’Or winner, footballghana.com looks back at when Ghanaians compared Christian Atsu to Lionel Messi.
The former Chelsea star on his debut for the Black Stars of Ghana on June 1, 2012, scored in a game against Lesotho with a beautifully curled effort from outside the 18 area.
Astonished by the effort, Ghanaians nicknamed Christian Atsu ‘The Ghana Messi’.
Going on to become a household name, Atsu became a star for Ghana and played at the world cup and several AFCON tournaments.
Although he could not reach the levels of Messi, his Messi comparison was well deserved.
Other African stars that have in the past had Messi comparison include Mohammed Salah [Egypt], Moses Simon [Nigeria], Abdelmoumen Djabo [Algeria], and Youssef Msakni [Tunisia].
