Ghanaian forward Eric Ocansey’s debut for Waasland-Beveren ends in defeat

Ghanaian forward Eric Ocansey marked his debut for Waasland-Beveren but unfortunately suffered a defeat to Royal Excel Mouscron in the Belgian second-tier on Saturday.

The 24-year-old joined the club on transfer deadline day from fellow Belgian side K.V. Kortrijk until the end of the current season.

On his debut, his outfit suffered a 3-0 defeat at away.

“I’ve seen a lot of good things from Eric. He was sharp and present. He has won duels and also had drive forward. It was a good debut, especially when you know that he played his last game in October with Kortrijk”

“He still misses minutes in the legs, but you can see that he has qualities. Ribeiro was creative, but just came back from injury”

“He had to look a bit more for his place in the team. You could see his qualities.” said Waasland Beveren coach Marc Schneider.

Ocansey left the Aspire Academy for Belgian side Eupen in 2015. Through a partnership with this Qatari academy, talents were able to experience professional football in Belgium.

In four seasons, the attacker played 119 games for the Pandas, scored sixteen goals, and gave ten assists.

Ocansey left Eupen and moved to the other side of the country to play for KV Kortrijk in 2019. For this club, he played in 63 games and scored four times.
