Ghanaian youngster Ernest Opoku pens a four-and-a-half-year contract extension with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar
Dutch giants, AZ Alkmaar have handed Ghanaian teenager Ernest Opoku a contract extension.
The 18-year-old penned a four-and-a-half-year contract with the club and he is expected to join the first team as he continues his development.
“This is the first season in which I fully participate in professional football,” says Poku. “It is getting better and better and I feel that I am taking steps. At the beginning of this season I was allowed to show myself at the training camp with AZ 1. There I immediately thought: I want to stay with this group. That has now been successful,” he added.
“In the coming years I will continue to focus on my development. I think I can learn to read the game better, so that I can recognize spaces and use my weapons at the right moments. In addition, I still have to physically grow, so that I can also fully play matches at this level.”
