Gov’t preferred coach for Black Stars Chris Hughton visits Gbese Mantse

Former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach, Chris Hughton on Thursday, February 3, 2022, paid a courtesy call on the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II.

The coach has been in Ghana since last month as he traces back his paternal roots.

Early today morning, Coach Chris Hughton had the chance to visit the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, who doubles as the Adonten of the Ga State.

Speaking during his meeting with Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Chris Hughton said, “It’s a pleasure for me to meet you and I’ve heard so much about you and I know how much you enjoy football.”

The coach added, “Predominantly, the reason I’m here is to see family. My father is from James Town and this will be a very proud moment for him.

“I very much appreciate and welcome your words of wisdom and this is something that I’ll take forward with me.”

On his part, Nii Ayi-Bonte II welcomed Chris Hughton and prayed for blessings for him.

The 63-year-old coach is said to be the preferred choice by the government to take charge of the Black Stars as the new head coach.

Although Coach Chris Hughton is said to have met with officials of government, it is unclear if he would end up getting the Ghana national team job.
