GPL 21/22 week 2 preview: Elmina Sharks vs Dreams FC

Elmina Sharks later today will host Dreams FC at the Paa Kwesi Nduom Sports Stadium at Elmina for week 2 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.

Both teams had a contrasting start to life in the new season, as Sharks took their first home point of the season while Dreams lost in their first fixture.

Elmina Sharks who were lucky to survive relegation last season, netted the first goal of the season through Michelle Sarpong before it was equalized by Accra Lions to see the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Today’s opponents also netted at home in their fixture but suffered a worse fate afterwards as Kotoko who lead the Power Rankings for Week 1 scored thrice between the 86th and 95th minute to take away all three points.

Both sides therefore come into the fixture with the sole intention of winning their first three points of the season.

Head to Head and form guide

Dreams FC are the favorites on paper if the recent meetings between the two sides are to be taken into consideration.

In the two fixtures played last season, this afternoon’s away side picked 4 out of a possible six.

Dreams FC picked up a point from the same venue last season in what was a 2-2 thriller before running out as victors with a 2-0 victory in the second part of the season.

In terms of form, Elmina Sharks have impressively picked up 7 out of 9 points stretching to the back end of last season.

They ended the campaign with two vital wins against Legon Cities and Kotoko to ensure their safety in the league, before taking a point away at the Accra Sports Stadium against Accra Lions.

For Dreams FC, the only positive result they recorded since the back end of last season was in the penultimate game against Ashanti Gold where they drew 0-0.

Dreams then lost 2-1 to Great Olympics in the last game of last season before starting the season with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Kotoko.
