GPL Betting Storm; Top Club officials are also involved – Bechem United Prez.
President of Bechem United Football Club, Mr. Kingsley Owusu Achau has disclosed several top officials from clubs in the Ghana Premier League are involved in illegal betting.
The Ghana Premier League has become subject to a reported betting scandal following Ashgold’s 7-0 defeat of Inter Allies which saw Allies defender intentionally score two own goals.
Following defender Hashim Musah’s admission that he deliberately scored those own goals to avert a betting scandal, Bechem United President, Mr. Kingsley Owusu has revealed several top officials are also involved in the scandal and he’s more than willing to name them if invited by the GFA’s Ethics Committee.
“They (club officials) engage in bets. Several officials are involved, I know what I am saying,” he claimed on Asempa FM
“If the ethics committee invites me, I will come and explain to them. What they (bettors) are doing is destroying our game.
“We are all pretending not to be aware but we all know club officials are involved in this trade.” – Mr. Owusu further stated
The GFA have already begun investigations into the alleged case of match-fixing and association with a betting scandal with regards to the Ashgold-Inter Allies game.
