HISTORIC: Hasaacas Ladies win maiden edition of WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League
Ghanaian side Hasaacas Ladies have been crowned champions of the maiden edition of the WAFU Zone B Cup in Abidjan on Thursday.
The Ghanaian side defeated their counterpart Rivers Angels from Nigeria by 3:1 to lift the giant trophy.
It was a payback time for the Doo Girls as they had lost their opening game in the competition to the same side by 2-1.
Basigi and his charges avenged the opening defeat by inflicting a painful one on their opponents in the finals of the tournament.
Veronica Appiah opened the scoring for Hasaacas Ladies as early as the first minute of the game to set the tone for a historic night.
Rivers Angels were brought alive by Vivian Ikechukwu after nine minutes before Perpetual Agyekum restored the lead for Hasaacas Ladies in the 41st minute from a stupendous free-kick.
Azumah Bugre scored the final goal for the Sekondi-based club in the 57th minute to give them the title.
The tournament was used as a qualification ground for the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League to be hosted in Egypt.
Hasaacas Ladies have booked a ticket to the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League to held in Egypt later this year.
The win means Hasaacas Ladies have won their third trophy of the season after lifting the Ghana Women’s Premier league and the Ghana FA Cup titles respectively.
