Ghana forward Kwesi Okyere Wriedt nets winning goal for Holstein Kiel against Hamburg SV

Marcel Rapp, the coach of Holstein Kiel, has revealed how he beat the great HSV. Kwasi Okyere Wriedt was considered not just as an attacker in the derby against Hamburg on Sunday, who should supply goals in the derby.

Rapp reportedly gave the Black Stars player special instructions to keep HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau out of the game as much as possible.

The coach’s move worked twice in the game:

Wriedt scored the only meaningful opportunity of the game to give the ruthlessly efficient hosts a 1-0 lead. Furthermore, the HSV defender was nearly continuously on his feet with the winter signing, so he did not have his regular opportunity in the Hamburg build-up game.

After the game, Kwasi Okyere Wriedt explained his coach’s tactical instructions for the game.

“We wanted to weaken HSV a bit and take Schonlau out of the game. I think we did quite well,” he said.

Schonlau admits that he was “a bit surprised.” The defensive rock stated that the approach of covering a center defender is odd, “but of course legitimate.”

“Today we took an important step, but we still have to get more points to stay in the class,” Wriedt added.

“We defended with passion,” said Rapp. “Especially in the second half we defended everything even better.”
