Hope for Ghana: Callum Hudson-Odoi turns down England callup
Chelsea winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi has turned down the chance to join with the England U-21s in favor of staying with his club.
Footballghana.com understands that the U-21 coach sat with Hudson-Odoi in hopes of getting him to join the squad for the international break but the move did not come to fruition.
England’s youngsters will make the trip to Romania before hosting Kosovo.
The Chelsea academy graduate was included in the U-21 side for the European Championships earlier this year but had to pull out due to injury.
“Callum is a player that we really like,” said Carsley, the U-21 coach.
“I’ve had some really good conversations with him and his advisor and Callum felt that it wasn’t the right time for him at the minute to come with England. He’s stayed back at Chelsea to work on his development there.
“I respected that decision and that was it really,” he concluded.
Hudson-Odoi spent his vacation in Ghana where he was greeted by the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Youth and Sports.
