‘I am innocent’ – AshantiGold president Kweku Frimpong distances himself from bmatch-fixing scandal
President of AshantiGold SC, Dr Kweku Frimpong has said he is innocent of the match-fixing scandal.
Dr Frimpong, together with his son, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Emmanuel Frimpong have both been charged on three counts of misconduct for match manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Week 34 match against Inter Allies at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on July 17, 2021.
During the game, Inter Allies defender, Hashmin Musah found his own net twice as relegated Allies lost 7-0 to Ashanti Gold.
According to him, the Miners have been recording some huge scorelines last season and affirms that he is innocent about the scandal.
“We have not done anything bad because we always beat people 4-0, 5-0 or 5-4,” Kwaku Frimpong told BBC Sport Africa.
“We beat them five and their defender [Musah] scored two himself. I think they have to put the blame on the guy who scored himself because it’s unprecedented.
“So why do we have to blame Ashanti Gold? This is jealousy and they just want to destroy my name. I have not talked to any president or any club. We have done nothing.” he added.
