Isaac Twum wants Ghana coach to exclude experienced players ahead of AFCON 2021
Former Black Stars B captain Isaac Twum has called on Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac to do away with the so-called experienced players ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The 2021 AFCON has been slated for January 9 to February 6, 2022 as 24 countries battle it out for the covetous trophy.
Dan Quaye, a member of the 2006 World Cup squad suggested Ghana can secure qualification to the 2022 World Cup and make impact at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with the inclusion of experienced players.
But according to Twum, experience does not play football at the moment and has therefore called on the technical team to focus on the young ones.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Inter Allies skipper said, “At the moment, we have new generation of players and if we want to build a team that can win us titles, I believe the young ones must be given the chance. We have to encourage the youngsters, look at how Fatawu Issahaku fared in his first game for the Black Stars”
“We gave some players the chance and they excelled, Kamaldeen, Kudus and others are new in the national team but they are delivering, so to me, the most important thing is for us to give them the confidence and that is all”
“If the youth in the team gets the confidence, there wouldn’t be any team that can compete with the Black Stars”
“We should forget about experience players and focus on the youth because experience does not play football now. Currently, Kamaldeen can play better than Kevin Prince Boateng though he is not at par with him. Marcus Rashford can play better than Ronaldo now but the secret is that, the Portuguese star is depending on what he has achieved in his career to play”
“As a country, we are in search of the AFCON trophy so I will entreat the technical handlers to invite players that can run through a game than depending on experience players” he said.
