It’s heartbreaking Black Stars could not live up to expectations at AFCON – Richmond Boakye Yiadom
Ghana forward Richmond Boakye Yiadom says the Black Stars inability to live up to expectations at the Africa Cup of Nations is heartbreaking.
The four-time African champions recorded their worse performance at the AFCON and their first exit in the group stage since 2006 after defeat to Comoros on Tuesday.
The Beitar Jerusalem striker scored in that as Ghana suffered a 3-2 defeat to AFCON debutants and subsequently exited Group C.
Ghana will now have to wait until 2023 in the search of a fifth Africa Cup of Nations title.
“It breaks my heart; we couldn’t live up to expectations at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations. There is no excuse for our failure. We ask Ghanaians to forgive us and we will surely bounce back”, Boakye Yiadom said in a post.
Boakye Yiadom was made the squad for the 2013 AFCON in South Africa but was unable to play in the competition after picking up an injury in Ghana’s last preparatory game ahead of the tournament.
