Jerome Boateng dreams of a return to the German national

Jerome Boateng still thinks a return to the national team is possible. “I’m still in good contact with Hansi, we’re in exchange,” said the 2014 world champion in an interview with Welt am Sonntag.

“Everything is possible in our sport. Hansi knows my qualities. I haven’t checked off the national team.”

The central defender from Olympique Lyon, who is currently plagued by a pubic arthritis, also knows: “A lot has to fit and come together for an invitation. We have a lot of good defenders in the national team who play in the Champions League with their clubs.”

He initially wanted to focus on “getting healthy and showing consistently good performances at Lyon.”

Boateng moved to France last September after his contract with Bayern Munich was not renewed. Doctors have confirmed that his physical condition “can keep up at this level for years to come”.

However, the Bundesliga does not play a specific role in Boateng’s thoughts about the future, because: “Winning titles abroad is something very special.”
